Astoria architect John Wicks designed this house for Carlton and Grace Allen in 1906. Carleton B Allen was one of Astoria's prime citizens and businessmen. He came to the Pacific Northwest from New York and settled near Astoria by 1882 where he was the president of the Cape Hancock Canning Company. In 1895 he married Grace Carruthers, a native Astorian, and engaged in both the lumber and real estate business.

The house was purchased by Paul Caruana in July of 2007 and underwent a six month complete renovation which brought the interior and exterior closer to its original splendor. Changes included were; new electrical, plumbing, a theater, wine cellar, new kitchen, historic moldings and some floor plan changes.
